As one of the country’s top lenders for residential solar installations in the country, Mosaic has been a key catalyst in the growth of distributed clean energy in the United States. Mosaic first hired PVG to help the company understand the growth opportunity in the home electrification market, and our partnership deepened and expanded from there to become trusted advisors to the entire leadership team.

Go-To-Market Strategy and Product Development

PVG developed a scenario-based model to evaluate the energy cost savings potential of multiple electrification measures in 30 U.S. markets. We leveraged the results of the model and a set of qualitative data gathered from interviews with Mosaic’s solar and home improvement stakeholders to develop product concepts and go-to-market strategies for the home electrification market. These concepts included new potential financial products and a set of tools to improve the customer and contractor experience. In the next stage of product discovery, PVG held a workshop with the senior leadership team to identify the most promising product concepts to further develop for the company. From there, PVG led two stealth efforts to build the business case for an opportunity focused on heat pump loans and another at the crossroads of solar and electric vehicles.

Policy and LPO Strategy

Over the course of our engagement with Mosaic, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) also became law. We worked with Mosaic to understand the opportunity from the law’s tax and rebate provisions, helped them communicate the law’s different provisions to their contractor network, and provided guidance on how Mosaic could best position itself in the market via the full spectrum of IRA incentives and market-opening opportunities. We also led a months-long effort to help the Mosaic leadership team better understand the opportunities and challenges of the Title 17 financing program at the DOE Loan Programs Office.

Impact Achieved
  • Created a quantitative foundation for understanding household savings from a number of different residential electrification measures and created close to a dozen potential product opportunities to serve the market.
